J. F. Jacques is founder and director of Out-Side-In. He is a dramatherapist registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC), clinical supervisor, author and theatre practitioner. Beside his work for Out-Side-In, he also works as a dramatherapist in a specialised NHS secondary care service for people with mental health problems in Hertfordshire (UK). He has extensive experience of working with young people, children and families, people with learning disabilities, adults with autism, refugees and asylum seekers. He is interested in the impact of trauma on human and social development and in the application of drama and theatre to community building, dialogue and democratic change. Originally a teacher, he taught in secondary education in the UK and Italy. He is an invited tutor on the MA in Dramatherapy at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge where he teaches Autobiographical Theatre.
He has been published in the field of dramatherapy, has facilitated workshops and presented at a number of conferences in the UK and abroad. He has advanced training in Group Psychotherapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), as well as holding a Diploma in Creative Supervision from the London Centre for Psychodrama. He also trained in Forum Theatre (with Cardboard Citizens and Augusto Boal) and has advanced training in Playback Theatre. He is a member of the British Association of Dramatherapists and Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility. He is an active theatre practitioner and co-founded Indefinable Theatre Company.
