Welcome to Out-Side-In!

Out-Side-In is concerned with the potential of the art forms of drama and theatre to bring about change within individuals and communities. It draws from the transformative, relational, participatory and creative properties of drama and theatre to help individuals to lead more fulfilling lives and to restore a sense of psychological health (drama and therapy). It is also concerned with achieving a greater sense of empowerment within groups, communities and organisations through reflecting and acting on common preoccupations and aspirations (acting for change)

Through the lens of a mirror, Out-Side-In would read In-Side-Out. This intentionally refers to the inevitable interplay between the outer world and our inner world, and how one is constantly influenced by the other. Out-Side-In advocates for a contextualised practice whereby the individual is primarly seen in relation to others and the world he inhabits. It recognises the significance and the impact of the cultural, the political, the social and the environmental on the inner development of individuals. But it also in return believes in the possibilities for individuals engaged in a process of change to influence and create strategies for better futures for themselves and beyond their own communities.

Out-Side-In sees drama and theatre as essential witnesses to our personal and collective experience, but also as invaluable instruments for change both at an intra-psychic and inter-personal level.
